In the world of numismatics (the study or collection of coins, currency, and related items) and notaphily (the study or collection of paper currency), grading standards are crucial for assessing the condition and value of items. Here’s an overview of grading standards for both fields:


Notaphily Grading Standards (Banknotes)

Grading for banknotes focuses on aspects like crispness, folds, tears, and overall appearance. Here are some commonly recognized grades:


GEM UNC

Gem Uncirculated (GEM UNC): Perfect in every respect, bright colors, and crisp paper.


UNC

Uncirculated (UNC): The note is perfect, showing no signs of handling, creasing, or folds. numquam, error, est. Ea, consequatur.


AU or AUNC

About Uncirculated (AU): The note appears almost new, with only minor traces of handling.


XF or EF

Extremely Fine (XF or EF): Slight signs of circulation, with only light folds or handling marks.


F

Fine (F): The note is heavily circulated, but no major tears or holes. May have some folds and wear.


VF

Very Fine (VF): Shows moderate wear, but remains attractive, with some folds and wrinkles.


VG

Very Good (VG): Still shows considerable wear but may not have tears or significant damage.


G

Good (G): Noticeable wear with many folds, but the note is intact, though not attractive.


FR

Fair: Major issues like heavy wear, multiple folds, tears, and possible writing or stains.


PR

Poor: The note is severely damaged, possibly missing pieces, heavily creased, or stained.
