The 2 Samoan tala banknote, first issued in 1991, commemorates the Golden Jubilee of Malietoa Tanumafili IIs service as head of state. The 2 tala note is not only a commemorative bank note, but it is also the first polymer note issued by Samoa. The obverse features His Highness Susuga Malietoa Tanumafili II, with the village of Mulivai, the Immaculate Conception of Mary Cathedral in Apia, and buses on Beach Road in the background. The reverse side has a picture of a Samoan family gathered in a fale, a traditional Samoan house. There is a shadow image of the Samoan national flag, but no security thread. The 2003 banknote used intaglio printing. The note measures 140 mm by 70 mm.
